Hmmm, it just seems strange to me that a knightly order would take the symbol of one of the Empire's provinces (still around when the order was initiated) as a symbol to represent Mymidia when other less ambiguous symbols were/are available. The shield is, however, stylised as 'shining' thereby vaguely representing a sun - perhaps influencing their design?
Older GW material has the eagle and a spear/ shield combo representing the Goddess. It occurs to me that the sun symbol was not associated with Myrmidia prior to mention of the blazing sun knights. It seems that the blazing sun symbol is largely associated with Solland (and therefore especially appropriate for a Wissenland force). I am currently painting up a unit of blazing suns for my Nuln/Wissenland army as I considered them most appropriate for a city that respects the Classical gods (Verena etc.) to a larger extent than most of the Empire (although I note that their Chapter house is in Talabheim based on recent info.
